Updates after going to press:

1. Sprint finals Banquet Dinner Saturday night starting at 6:00 at Delancey Street Restaurant. Nice place, downtown, view of the bay. Appetizer: bruschetta, chips and salsa. Salad: mixed greens, balsamic vinaigrette, and breads. Choice of entree: Caribbean grilled chicken breast with mango sauce, avocado, oranges, spicy rice, and black beans; Blackened meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes and glazed carrots; Linguini with prawns and garlic; Grilled of blackened fish of the day served with cajun butter, rice, and sauteed squash; Oak fired, barbecued chicken and ribs served with garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed squash; (vegetarian) Pasta Primavera with angel hair pasta in a light red sauce with fresh tomatoes, garlic, basil, and asparagus. Dessert: vanilla bean ice cream. You also get a soft drink.

The room has a capacity of 35 people, so we'll sell dinner tickets at every event until they sell out. The $25 price includes everything: soft drink, appetizer, salad, entree, dessert, tax, and gratuity. If you wish to drink beer or wine, you can purchase it at the bar separately.

2. How about a souvenir? Commemorative Prints for the Golden Gate Getaway designed by Benjamin Chan will be available for purchase at the sprint finals - a limited run of 40 9" x 12" prints on nice paper suitable for framing. The design theme is "urban meets wild" and will incorporate elements of all 9 days of events.

3. Sprint Finals awards! You'll get the official certificate... and you'll get a complimentary copy of Benjamin Chan's print. For the first place finishers in each division, male or female, your print will be on a special wooden block that will stand upright. Second and third place will receive a nice paper print.

4. No bus to Pt. Bonita! Thus, the registration location has been moved! So contact me if you need help finding a carpool, and, for your convenience, here are the updated directions. The Google Map has also been updated.

Updated Pt. Bonita directions: (Starts 2:30-4:30 P.M.) From U.S. Highway 101 coming from San Francisco, take the first exit after crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, and turn right onto Alexander Ave. Follow signs for the Marin Headlands and Rodeo Beach. Make a left onto Bunker Ave., and then there is a one-way tunnel - you may have to wait 5 minutes for the traffic signal. After about 2.5 miles on Bunker Rd., bear left onto Field Road (signs for Pt. Bonita, do not go to Rodeo Beach!) After about a half mile on Field Road, after passing the NIKE missile site on your right, make a left onto a very short road, and drive across it straight into a dirt parking lot. If taking U.S. Highway 101 from the North, take the last exit before the bridge for Sausalito, and make a right onto Alexander, then a left on Bunker, and then the same directions.

5. Course Setter's Notes: These are accessible from the terraloco.com schedule page. They've been added within the web pages for Pt. Bonita, San Francisco State, and many of the training events. McLaren Park's notes will be posted a few days before the event. For the training events, check the day before on the website - or at the event.

Event Preparation:
We will not rent e-punch sticks at any of the training events, but we will at the sprint finals events. We will offer e-punch at the training events, but you will need your own stick; results will be processed with the GeBe printer. For the following venues, pants are recommend to shield your legs from vegetation: Golden Gate Park, Morgan Territory, Joaquin Miller, Point Bonita, McLaren Park. (Except for the White courses at Pt. Bonita and McLaren.) Those same 5 venues all have some poison oak. It's avoidable, and best to wash yourself down with dishwashing soap (the irritant is an oil) or "Tecnu" if you feel you've come into contact with it. It's more likely you'll encounter it at Morgan Territory, but probably not at the other locations. Leaves of three? Let it be. Google image search poison oak if you don't know what it looks like. Cleated or spiked shoes are recommended at Morgan Territory, Pt. Bonita, Joaquin Miller, and McLaren Park. General hazards include vehicular traffic - although courses are designed to avoid dangerous traffic - and steep slopes and slippery footing in some of the areas of Morgan Territory, Pt. Bonita, Joaquin Miller, and McLaren Park. Keep your head up. During commute hours bay area traffic can be heavy so allow for extra travel time when necessary; 511.org has a continuously updated highway map color coded with how fast the traffic is moving.

I recommend going to the Google Maps page, where all these venues are tagged with the same titles you see here. You can then create customized directions very easily in advance of the event, or do it from your phone "on the fly." Otherwise, you should be fine with these directions and a simple map of the Bay Area with its freeways.
