Register in person (Registration form, waiver) | return to terraloco home

The fog returned for the summer season. As I was checking the course at 2:30, the fierce fog was fighting its way over the ridge towards Noe Valley. By the time participants were coming back, it had engulfed Noe Valley. It's back.

It seemed to me that the course would provide enough distraction for participants to weather the chill air and blowy winds on the exposed ridges and hilltops. Panoramic views abounded and route choices were not straightforward. In fact, I don't think anybody took the exact same route between any pair of checkpoints. Maybe? Well, if the person who made the map (Mark Prior) says it was an interesting course, I won't argue! The Far course was also quite physical and long for an evening session; then again, no one opted for the 5 km "Near" course (but a few started the "Far" and just did the first couple checkpoints.)

Of the 11 (some anonymous) participants, half of us had some social fun afterwards at the nearby Bliss Bar while the DJ spun classic 80s and 90s hip hop. Too much fun! The advantages of an event in a cool San Francisco neighborhood...

Thanks very much to Kristin and Sarah at See Jane Run for helping us to coordinate the event from there. They were really nice! Interestingly, counting the two anonymous participants, the females outnumbered the males at this event 6 to 5. (I don't count - I'm the organizer!)

What's the Deal?

Enjoy the stunning views and ponder some complicated route choices with BAOC's big, 1:15000 street map of the middle of San Francisco. Lots of cool neighborhoods with some rugged parks to mix it up. The curvy streets and hills will give you some interesting planning decisions to make. Then, executing the plan will require some attention!

You can try the 5 km, 4 checkpoint, 170 m climb course or the 8 km, 8 checkpoint, 290 m climb course. Question and Answer checkpoints will be set; your map will come with a multiple choice questionaire.

Details

You can start anytime from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. We'll meet at See Jane Run, about a 1 km walk west of the 24th St. BART station. Cost is $5 / person, and running shoes and shorts will work for this!

See Jane Run is offering a 15% shopping discount on most items; although it's a women's running store, there's a few things guys can buy that aren't gender specific. Or, get something for that special someone of yours...

We'll move the social from the store at 7:00 to a local neighborhood hangout-type-deal (there are quite a few around.) We'll leave a sign by the front door of See Jane Run directing you where to go, if you'd like to join us!
