Joshua
Tree Map Trek "rogaine," Saturday/Sunday Oct. 22/23, 2011

return to terraloco home
Please
stay tuned for status - we hope to get a permit and finalize the exact
date by early 2011!
Preliminary event information, authored October 1, 2010:
Don't miss the experience of a lifetime on Oct. 22/23, 2011 (that's
_next_ October!)
4 or 8 hours trekking through beautiful desert country and rocky
formations in Joshua Tree National Park,
finding beautiful checkpoints on a large map.
Sign up soon, preferably by October 15, 2010, to help us plan for
this event -
we just need a contact email address and a few questions answered about logistics
for planning purposes.
By doing this, you will also help greatly with the permitting, so we
can be specific about numbers and logistics.
So if you're interested, but not sure you if you can definitely come,
please sign up anyway to help us plan.
This also gives you priority for registration for the event (last year there was a limit of 60 participants,)
and you can drop out at anytime. It would be best if we knew within two weeks,
so if you could tell us
by Oct. 15, 2010, that would really help our permit application.
Our hope is to secure the permit by early 2011 and then we can confirm
the plans and carry on with registration.
Your response and information will increase our odds at getting this
permit. We did it before, I think we can do it again,
but there's no guarantees. We'll keep you informed every step of the
way.
Here's some preliminary information about the event plan for Oct.
22/23, 2011.
1. New area: Hidden Valley (this year, it was Jumbo Rocks.)
2. Group camping: Sheep's Pass (will make logistics much easier than
this year, and I will reserve sites by the end of this month based on
signups.)
3. Checkpoint verification: We're expecting to use a GPS-based system using technology being currently prototyped.
4. Expect a nice smorgasbord of post-event food.
5. Map: 11x17, 1:24000 scale, slightly enhanced USGS topo.
