Bishop Ranch Regional Preserve, San Ramon, CA

The courses are all near each other. The Route and Trail courses finish near the Contour course start; the Contour course finishes near the Downhill course start. Pick and choose, decide on the go what you want.

Cost: $12 adults, $7 juniors for everything - preregister online for a $2 discount (no commitment to show.)

Gear: Compass, spiked or cleated shoes, long pants, gaiters recommended. Park has moderate poison oak.

Directions: Exit I-680 in San Ramon at Bollinger Canyon Road and go west to San Ramon Valley Boulevard. Turn left (south) on San Ramon Valley Boulevard and drive to Morgan Drive. Turn right (west) on Morgan Drive and go a short distance. Park on Morgan Drive and the trailhead is on the left. Registration is near the trailhead.

Preregistration Recommended: We are limited to 50 attendees by the parks district, since neighborhood parking is limited. (Register online at terraloco.com - pay at the event.) Carpooling highly encouraged.

Training Courses

  1. 1.Trail - basic navigation, find features on trail network, 1.8 km

  2. 2.Route - Checkpoints marked with no routing; develop your route choice and planning skills and execute the most efficient tour as low as 2.2 km

  3. 3.Downhill - high speed, sprint-style quick decision making without the huff and puff, 0.9 km

  4. 4.Contour line - follow the mapped line with no marked controls, and mark the controls you see on the map, 0.6 km
